I read Onfray Le Souci des plaisirs.

On the morning of 21/11/19, I read Onfray's work on sex: Le Souci des plaisirs. Construction d’une érotique solaire. The title translates as: The worries of pleasure. Construction of a solar erotics. Here are some notes.

P 27 has the hypothesis: "Sade et Bataille, deux défenseurs inattendus de l’éros nocturne paulinien."

What Onfray calls "le nihilisme de la chair" (the Christian anti-erotics, the corporophobia as I call it), in English "the nihilism of the flesh" needs to be antidoted (contrepoison) with an oriental erotics (excluding of course an Islamic erotics, thus actually meaning an Asian erotics):

Page 71: Voragine, Sade, Bataille are all every bit as Christian in their denial of the flesh and their celebration of death. Onfray also points to Kempis

Page 96 mentions that Bataille first read Sade in 1926. He prefaces Justine ou les Malheurs de la vertu in 1950. This preface will resurface in two chapters of Bataille's ''Eroticism: "L'homme souverain de Sade" and "Sade et l'homme normal".

René Étiemble, "erotisme sanieux" p. 108 in L'Érotisme et l'amour

Does Onfray deny human nature?

"La revolution selon saint Paule" p 166, lots of Saint Paul and his neurosis and neurotic reaction to sexuality

p 120 compares Vézelay Abbey to the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, just as somewhere else the Kama Sutra is compared to Augustinus's The City of God

Augustine, in The City of God says that "c'est apres le péché que la libido est née"

Martyrology, contrepoison

P 138 appears le Shivaïsme.

P 142 compares Spinoza's conatus to prana. Nisus is also mentioned.

P. 164 Dechristianization 6/11/1793 until 2/4/1794 (arrest of Claire Lacombe); Neuwirth Law, Fourier's Le nouveau monde amoureux

JWG: If sadomasochism is typically Western, why is it to be found elevated to perfection in Japan, a country largely devoid of Christian influence?

P 158 "belles individualités", "jamais aux femme", is Onfray not forgetting Christine de Pizan's The Book of the City of Ladies? He mentions Castiglione, Della Casa, Gracian and Accetto. He forgets de Pizan, especially her The Treasure of the City of Ladies.

p. 168: "Une troisieme dechristianisation s'impose.
