On *hailaz and circle symbolism:

The Germanic words heil, heilig, heel, heilzaam and the English words health, whole, holy, hole are all derived from *hailaz which is Proto-Germanic for:

  1. whole, unbroken, intact
  2. entire, complete
  3. healthy, sound

I find it surprising that so little has been written about this circle symbolism. The flawlessness of the sphere and the circle connects with health and holiness.

Even the name Eloise is derived from *hailaz.
