Mister X , it seems, is the french E. J. Bellocq. That early american photographer revealed by Lee Friedlander and whose life was so well rendered in Louis Malle’s film La Petite, who immortalized on film the girls of Storyville, the red-light district of New Orleans. Mr. X pursued a similar quest, with as much gusto and flair, in the Pigalle of the thirties. [1]
