"Het boek" is a short story by Tom Lanoye featuring Achille van den Branden, a child prodigy who reads so fast (one book in 10 seconds) that by the time he is 50 he has read every book in the world. He becomes a circus freak and protégé of academics. Then a from a small village comes the rumor that there is one book that he does not know. This book appears to be his life story that we had begun to read on page 55 and that from page 79 is reprinted in smaller type, when he finds out that there are only a couple of blank pages are left, signifying that his end is near.
