Baden-Württemberg is one of the 16 states of Germany. Baden-Württemberg is in the southwestern part of the country to the east of the Upper Rhine, bordering Alsace (France) to the west, Switzerland to the south, Bavaria to the east and northeast, Hessen to the north, and Rhineland Palatinate to the northwest.

Most of the major cities of Baden-Württemberg straddle the banks of the Neckar River, which runs centrally through the state (downstream (from southwest to the centre, then northwest) first Tübingen, then Stuttgart, Heilbronn, Heidelberg, and Mannheim). It is third largest in both area and population among the country's sixteen states, with an area of Template:Km2 to mi2 and 10.7 million inhabitants (both almost equivalent to all of Belgium). The state capital is Stuttgart.
