Samson was a biblical figure, a judge in the Old Testament who performed feats of strength against the Philistines but was betrayed by Delilah his mistress. Delilah seduces him into revealing the secret of his superhuman strength, which she then betrays to the Philistines. After being blinded, Samson is brought to Gaza, imprisoned, and put to work grinding grain in a thread mill.
