A summer without men (2011) is a novel by American writer Siri Hustvedt.

One day, out of the blue, after thirty years of marriage, Mia’s husband, a renowned neuroscientist, asks her for a “pause.” This abrupt request sends her reeling and lands her in a psychiatric ward. Summary
Following her break-up with Boris and her stay in hospital, Mia, 55, a poet, rents a house next to her mother's retirement home in Minnesota. Her mother and her friends are widows. She set up a poetry class for teenage girls. Her daughter Daisy gives her news of Boris. Mia gets back together with him.
