William Nelson Copley (January 24 1919May 7 1996) was an American artist who lived in New York.

He signed his Surrealist style paintings CPLY.

Life and works

He was educated at the Phillips Academy and Yale University. After service in World War II he began to paint. He directed the "Copley Gallery" with John Ployardt in 1947-1948, but did not gain much attention for his works until moving to Paris in 1951. In the following 12 years his works would be displayed in Italy, France and New York. He returned to New York in 1963. In his final years he lived in Key West, Florida.
