To violate is to transgress or to break or act not according to (rules, conventions, etc.). It is also a synonym of rape as in Le viol (1934) by René Magritte.

  1. The act or an instance of violating or the condition of being violated.
  2. An infraction or a failure to follow a rule.
  3. Also conveys the sense of having been abused sexually.
