I traveled to the Sierra de Guara for the seventh time.

Back from Nocito (Oct/Nov 2019):

Left by train on 26/10 from Antwerp to Paris Nord, from Paris Nord to Gare Montparnasse and then to Dax and Pau.

Slept in Hotel Central in Pau.

Picked up the car on the following morning at 10. Drove via Arudy, Laruns, Col du Pourtalet, Sabiñánigo (tapas at the Branquil Bar), then the A-1604 direction Laguarta and the road to Nocito, newly asphalted since c. 2013, says Pilar of the Camping Valle de Nocito.

Arrived during the afternoon, checked in at Casa Villacampa and went for a walk down the Barranco de Abellada. Had to stop because I did not have rubber shoes.

Next day left for Huesca to pick up Fara, then we went to Decathlon.

Next day same walk, all the way down to the Barranco de Abellada to the Barranco de Pillera, just before it debouches via a small waterfall in the Badina d'O Estanonero, there is a little path which takes you to the other side.

Next day, day of rest. Fara sick.

Next day, walk[1] from Bara to Rodellar via Nasarre and the Losa Mora dolmen.

Then back to Huesca to drop off Fara.

Drove to Jaca, spent the night in Hotel Jacques. It was dia de los muertos.

Next day back to Pau to drop off the car. Slept again at Hotel Central (next time, sleep at Hotel De Gramont), had lunch at Les amants du marché, a veggie place, coffee at the Aquiu and diner in Brasserie Berry (entrecôte with Béarnaise sauce, a specialty of the region).

When I travel I read. While travelling I seek out book stores. I was lucky. In Pau I found two 'bouquinistes'.

Le Roi Lire was closed.

At Chilperic I found a copy of Le Souci des plaisirs (Flammarion, 2008) by Michel Onfray, a copy of Les Fiançailles de M. Hire, Propos sur le bonheur, De l'inconvénient d'être né.

One of the chapters of Onfray's book comments on the 10/18 edition of George Bataille's L'Erotisme. This edition featured a photo from the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple, part of the Khajuraho. It criticizes Bataille's contention that the temple shows "obscenity" and notes the difference between Western sexuality, suffering from Christian repression, and Eastern sexuality which is freer.

In the afternoon I went to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Pau where I saw Portrait de l'Infante Marguerite[2] by Diego Velázquez.

The next day, my train was scheduled for 9:48 in the morning. I arrived at nine, in good time. The train was delayed first for two hours, than two hours and twenty minutes, then three, then indefinitely, then cancelled. We took the 14:45 train but this one only arrived in Bordeaux at 23:00 pm and when I finally arrived in Paris Montparnasse, all the trains to Belgium had gone.

SNCF offered me a hotel room at the Montparnasse Concorde hotel and I took a train the following morning to Antwerp at 8:25. Just before I got on, someone used the "A vous de jouer" in the station and played Flume's remix of "You and Me".

I read Strip-tease, La boule noire, Les Fiançailles de M. Hire, L'Outlaw by Simenon and Baltasar and Blimunda by Saramago. I started reading Les Voleurs de beauté but found it unbearable, I donated it to Hotel Central in Pau.

This was my seventh visit to Nocito.

hol van Pluto ( "In het hol van Pluto" is een typisch Vlaamse uitdrukking waarmee men op een kleurrijke manier een afgelegen plek omschrijft. Etymologisch vindt deze uitdrukking haar oorsprong bij de toegang tot de onderwereld waar Pluto heerste. ), leven als god in Frankrijk ((Zij leven) als God in Frankrijk bestaat dan ook niet zozeer uit deelbetekenissen, samengesteld tot een semantisch (betekenis-)geheel; het moet in figuurlijke zin worden opgevat. De spreker en de hoorder vragen zich niet af óf God wel leeft, en hoe dan, noch ook hoe Hij dat in Frankrijk precies zou doen. Het gezegde houdt ook helemaal niet in dát God in Frankrijk zou (kunnen) leven. Het is een beeld, dat in zijn geheel één idee uitdrukt, ongeveer "een luxe leven leiden". Een gezegde gedraagt zich daardoor ten dele als één betekenisdrager, zoals ook een woord dat kan doen; het gezegde is een geprefabriceerd taalelement, dat door de taalgebruiker kan worden ingezet zonder dat hij een zin uit al zijn bouwstenen hoeft op te bouwen.)

Saramago schrijfstijl in Baltasar and Blimunda wisselt tussen een alwetend 'goddelijke' verteller en een niet alwetend derde persoonsperspectief.

Onfray zet in Le Souci des plaisirs Artaud naast Holderlin, hij vermeldt Herculine Barbin en Pierre Rivière.
