Traumwerk is a term connected to Albrecht Dürer. It has to do with his enigmatic and inventively playful "marginalia", designed for the prayer book commissioned by the Maximilian I in 1515.
- "daß Einer Traumwerk wollt machen, in solchem mag Einer allerlei Creatur untereinander mischen"
- "Whoever wants to do dreamwork, must mix all things together."
The Italians in the sixteenth-century called it sogni dei pittori (painters' dreams), notes Robert Storr in Disparites & Deformations.
