The Man with a Pipe[1] (1848-49) is an early work by Gustave Courbet. It was rejected at the Paris Salon. It is held at the Musée Fabre, Montpelier. Three copies of the work exist. Some have said that it shows him smoking cannabis and that it caused a scandal.
