The Janissary Tree is a crime novel, written by Jason Goodwin. It is set in Istanbul in 1836. The first in a series featuring the eunuch detective Yashim, it deals with the fictional aftermath of a real event in Ottoman history - the so-called Auspicious Event, which took place in June, 1826. The Janissary Tree won an Edgar Award for Best Novel 2007.
