The Broken Jug

La Cruche cassée (The Broken Pitcher)[1] (1773) is painting by Jean Baptiste Greuze. It depicts a young innocent girl dressed in white who is holding a broken pitcher. The broken pitcher symbolizes her loss of virginity.

Bouguereau completed a similarly themed work in 1891[2].
