The Birth of Venus[1] (La Naissance de Vénus) is an 1862 painting by French painter Amaury Duval.
It is in the collection of the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille.
The painting was made after the poem "Rolla" by Alfred de Musset:
- Où Vénus Astarté, fille de l’onde amère,
Secouait, vierge encore, les larmes de sa mère,
Et fécondait le monde en tordant ses cheveux.
