de Mandiargues was born in Paris.

His book La Marée was made into a film by Walerian Borowczyk. The 1967 novel La Marge won the Prix Goncourt. It is his collection of pornographic items that is featured in Borowczyk's Une collection particuliere. He also wrote an introduction to Pauline Reage's Story of O.[1] [Apr 2007]
