Sittengeschichte is a German term with no precise English equivalent. Sittengeschichte is concerned with the historical development of morality (German: Sitten) and customs of a culture. Especially important is the history of sexuality and eroticism. There is an overlap with cultural history and the history of everyday life. A connected trope is Volksgeist.
