Ludovico Maria Sinistrari d'Ameno (February 26, 1622-1701) was an Italian Franciscan, advisor to the Tribunal of the Holy Inquisition in Rome and author of De Delictis et Poenis Tractatus Absolutissimus (which featured the chapter De Sodomia) and Demoniality Or Incubi and Succubi.
He is mentioned in Le Nègre Léonard et Maitre Jean Mullin by Pierre Mac Orlan, Là-Bas by Joris-Karl Huysmans, and most recently in The Club Dumas.
Life
Born in Ameno, Italy, he studied in Pavia and entered the Franciscan Order in 1647. He taught philosophy and theology to students attracted to Pavia by his fame. He also served as Councilor to the Supreme Tribunal of the Inquisition and in 1688, he supervised the compilation of the statutes of the Franciscan Order.
