The Latin expression risus paschalis (English: Easter laughter) refers to the practice to bring laughter in the sermon on Easter. In some regions, especially in Bavaria, it was from the 14th and 19th centuries an integral part of the Christian tradition.

John Oecolampadius wrote a letter against this custom , which was published in 1518 by Wolfgang Capito.
