In politics, right-wing, the political right, and the Right are positions that vary according the place, time and the speaker. For instance, they can be associated with positions that uphold traditional values or support free markets and property rights.
Originally, during the French Revolution, right-wing referred to seating arrangements in parliament; those who sat on the right supported the monarchy and aristocratic privilege. It has since been used to refer to wide variety of politically conservative and reactionary ideologies and support for traditional values. In the 20th century the term right wing has also been used to refer to support for laissez faire capitalism and free markets.
