The Revolutionary Surrealist group, headed by Christian Dotremont, was formed on May 17, 1947, in Brussels. Other inaugural members included Paul Bourgoignie, Achille Chavée, Marcel Havrenne, René Magritte, Marcel Mariën, Paul Nougé, and Louis Scutenaire.
