Plaquette is a term for a small plaque, especially small relief sculptures in bronze or other materials, often made to be hung on walls. These were popular in the Italian Renaissance and later. They have always been closely related to the medal, and many awards today are in the form of plaquettes.

Plaquette bindings are leather bookbindings that incorporate plaquettes in gesso.
