Just to let you know that there’s a CD on its way to you called ‘It Was Back In ‘82’. It’s a re-construction of my inaugural mixes for Piccadilly Radio in May / June 1982, by Pezz, former DJ at the DIY nights in the Midlands, but more recently the manager of the 3 Beat record shop in Liverpool. How Pezz came to re-do my mixes is a long story, which involves the birth of the band Chicken Lips – there’s a booklet with the CD in which Pezz tells the tale.

The CD has been put together as a limited edition promo only to mark the 25th Anniversary of these mixes– the first of their type on British radio. The music featured includes tracks by US, UK and Italian artists, which were being played on the underground black scene at the time. I’m not sure if anybody has ever re-created another DJ’s mix before. It was certainly a surprise when I heard what Pezz had done – albeit a pleasant one. Considering it’s now a quarter of a century ago, it’s a tribute to the creativity and innovations of this period that the music on the CD still sounds so vital all these years on. Anyway, hope you enjoy this blast from the past. Best Wishes, Greg Wilson
