Ozu Yasujirō (12 December 1903 - 12 December 1963) was an influential Japanese film director. Although marriage and family were among the most persistent themes in his body of work, Ozu remained single and childless all his life.

- A reassessment of Ozu's work in currently progress, spearheaded in part by a new book, Kiju Yoshida's Ozu's Anti-Cinema, which throws Ozu's body of work into a whole new light. Aside from being the first Japanese look at his work to be translated into English, the book is of double interest due to the background of his writer. Yoshida was one of the most significant filmmakers of the Japanese New Wave movement of the 60s, with his most famous work being Eros Plus Massacre in 1969.
