Ned Rorem (1923 – 2022) was an American composer and writer of contemporary classical music. Best known for his art songs, which number over 500, Rorem was the leading American of his time writing in the genre. His other works include operas, concertante, piano music as well as choral, chamber and orchestral works. He won a Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1976 for his Air Music: Ten Etudes for Orchestra.
