Mound of Butter[1] (1875–1885, U.S. National Gallery) by French artist Antoine Vollon (1833-1900) This oil on canvas (50.2 x 61cm) National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. was said to look so real that it might have been painted with butter itself.
