Il sexy or the “sexy nocturne” is an European film genre born in Italy, a precursor to the mondo genre. These travelogues largely consist of cabaret and music hall scenes filmed in their entirety. Lots of the material is filmed the Crazy Horse and the Sexy Club in Paris, and other hot night spots around the world. Approximately 100 of such films were produced from 1959 to 1970. The genre came to an end with the abolition of censorship and the arrival of the porno chic genre. The francophone countries were the most enthusiastic audiences for the “sexy nocturne.” The first titles generally cited in this category are Europa di notte (European Nights) and Io Amo, tu ami (I Love, You Love).

The films star stripteaseuses such as Lady Chinchilla, Rita Hymalaya, Rafa Temporel, Dodo d’Hamburg, Poupée la Rose, Bonita Super, Véronique, Truda, Lova Moor, Bettina Uranium, Sofia Palladium, and Rosa Fumetto.
