Life and career

Mattt Konture started his career a few years before the creation of L’Association. He published his first pages in 1982 (at the age of 17) in magazines such as Viper (L’ajeun) and Le Lynx (Les Exploits de Ted with J.C. Menu). When Mattt Konture went to Paris he edited his first comics, Nerf (1&2) on an old Xerox machine, L’Association later reprinted this first book. His first comic book was Ruga Zébo Violent edited by Futuropolis. At this time his drawings were very dark and full of strokes and looked like the growing American underground style. Mattt Konture later discovered R.Crumb and in 1988 started autobiographical comics such as Krokodile Comix 1 or Galopu that foreran the French underground movement. In 1989 M. Konture returned to Lozère where he spent his childhood. There he drew a few comics and continued Ivan Morve (a pun on “Mort-vivant” living dead). Morve Ivan is a half autobiographical story published in the pages of Psykopat.

During the same period M. Konture started “Jambon blindé” an improvised story asked by one of his friend Stéphane Blanquet. This new way of telling stories drove him to draw a series of “comixs” edited by L’Association in the collection Mimolette. “Autopsie d’un mort vivant” that can be translated into autopsy of a living dead is a telling about his life in a very dark way. In these books all his characters reappear; Galopu, Mister VrO and Ivan Morve each of them represents the author’s mood.

Mattt Konture and the music

Music, rock groups and concerts has always attracted M. Konture. He played in many groups. His original one-man group “Courge” became a real group called “Lucky and the Courges” and they made a few CDs and concerts every where around Montpellier (where he lives).

Influences

Many authors of “Métal Hurlant” (a comics magazine) have influenced Mattt Konture. As an example we can mention Marc Caro, Doury, Rita Mercedes, Moebius. However Mattt Konture has been inspired by 60’s American underground authors such as Crumb or Shelton they inspired him to create psychedelic and autobiographic comics.
