Mae West (August 17, 1893November 22, 1980) was an American actress, playwright, screenwriter, and sex symbol. Mae West was an early target of the Catholic Legion of Decency (see The Heat's On, 1943). She is also remembered for a sofa made in the honour of her lips by Salvador Dalí: the Mae West Lips Sofa
