"... [L]ike a thief in the night" (ὡς κλέπτης ἐν νυκτὶ, hōs kleptēs en nykti, 1 Thess 5:2) is a New Testament expression, specifically a precautionary phrase contradicting, in the case of the prophesied coming of the Messiah, any presumption along the lines of the slogan "When the revolution comes, everyone will know it."
