Romance of Astree and Celadon (Les Amours d'Astrée et de Céladon) is a film directed by Éric Rohmer. It was released September 5, 2007.

An adaptation of l'Astrée, by French director Eric Rohmer, was released in 2007 under the title Les Amours d'Astrée et de Céladon (in English-speaking territories its title was The Romance of Astrea and Celadon). It was nominated for a Golden Lion at the 2007 Venice Film Festival, and star Andy Gillet won an Étoile d'Or in 2008 for Best Male Newcomer for his performance as Céladon.

Synopsis

Inspired by L'Astrée a 17th century major work by Honoré d'Urfé about a shepherd, Céladon, who is madly in love with the beautiful Astrée, who flees from him, convinced of his infidelity. The story is set in fifth-century druidic Gaul. It was filmed in Auvergne at Les Gorges de la Sioule in May 2006.

Awards

The film won a commendation in the 'Best Unreleased Film' category (unreleased in Australia at the time of the awards) of the Australian Film Critics Association awards for 2008.
