Leo the Lion is the mascot for the Hollywood film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and one of its predecessors, Goldwyn Pictures, featured in the studio's production logo, which was created by the Paramount Studios art director Lionel S. Reiss. The logo, seen in the opening or closing credits of several MGM movies, features a roaring lion behind which there is a semi-circular film ribbon with the Ars Gratia Artis (a pseudo-Latin expression meaning "art for art's sake") motto.
