Gilles (or Pierrot) and Four Other Characters of the Commedia dell'arte[1][2] (c. 1718-19) is a painting by Antoine Watteau, depicting Pierrot. The work was long time identified as Gilles.

The subject of his hallmark painting, Pierrot or Gilles, with his slowly fading smile, seems a confused actor who appears to have forgotten his lines; he has materialized into the fearful reality of existence, sporting as his only armor the pathetic clown costume. The painting may be read as Watteau's wry comment on his mortal illness.

The work is currently at the Louvre.
