Prehistoric Painting: Lascaux or the Birth of Art is an art history book by Georges Bataille, first published by Albert Skira in 1955. Its English translation was by Austryn Wainhouse and co-translator James Emmons.
There, what Bataille called the "sacred moment of figuration" signals the beginning of history and of art.
