The kulaks (Template:IPAc-en; Template:Lang-rus, plural кулаки́, "fist", by extension "tight-fisted"; kurkuli in Ukraine, but also used in Russian texts in Ukrainian contexts) were a category of affluent peasants in the later Russian Empire and early Soviet Union, particularly Soviet Russia.
