The German word Krimi is colloquial abbreviation for "Kriminalfilm, Kriminalroman" (crime film or crime novel), a genre that is particularly common in the popular media and in the entertainment industry.
In France, the term polar is used and in Italy the term giallo.
Their history is tied to the history of films based on works by Edgar Wallace.
