Illustration by Florentius Schuyl (1619-1669), the Dutch physician and philosopher who translated and published De homine by René Descartes.
De homine is an important book in the history of materialism. It considers man a machine, a church organ, a clock and an automaton.
The illustration was done either by Gerard van Gutschoven or Louis de la Forge.
