Jean-Baptiste Girard (1680-1733), a French jesuit, born in Dole in the Jura. The novel Thérèse philosophe was devoted to recounting the relationship between Cathérine Cadière and Jesuit Jean-Baptiste Girard and their highly-publicized trial, held before the parliament of Aix in 1731.
