"The song "I.O.U.", written, produced and mixed by Arthur Baker, (then known for his work with New Order and Afrika Bambaataa), was also used on the 80's Breakdance movie Beat Street. It spent two weeks at number one in the US Billboard dance chart, sandwiched between the likes of Madonna, Michael Jackson and David Bowie, and was number 2 in the national United Kingdom Gallup charts through the summer of 83. "I.O.U." is a song by British group Freeez, who had their peak of success around the time of this song. The song had reached #2 in the UK Singles Chart earlier in 1983 before reaching the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in the U.S., giving them their only chart-topping single on any chart in America.

The chorus is often erroneously sung by listeners as "A-E, A-E I-O-U, and sometimes Y", referring to the vowels of the alphabet. It is actually "A-E, A-E, I-O-U, U, I sometimes cry" and "A-E, A-E, I-O-U, U, I sometimes lie".
