De Hoogstraat loopt als autovrije winkelstraat in het district Antwerpen evenwijdig met de Schelde van de Grote Markt in zuidwaartse richting naar de Sint-Jansvliet. Het is één van de oudste straten van de stad en verbond de ruienstad met de eerste Sint-Michielskerk, de latere Sint-Michielsabdij, en het destijds bijhorende Kiel.
