Hic Habitat Felicitas
From The Art and Popular Culture Encyclopedia
"Hic Habitat Felicitas" (English: Happiness Resides Here) is a rock carving found in Pompeii outside of a bakery. Finding it outside of a bakery was surprising, because of Pompeii's reputation as a city of brothels, or lupanare as they were called. It was a talisman for good luck, and is on show at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale (Naples), in the erotic collection called by the Bourbons "Gabinetto Segreto".
