The prix de l'Humour Noir was created in 1954 by Tristan Maya.

It is composed of several prizes :

  • Le prix de l'humour Noir Xavier Forneret : for best literary work.
  • Le prix de l'Humour Noir Grandville : for draughtsmen.
  • Le prix de l'Humour Noir du Spectacle
  • Le prix de l'Humour Noir du Disque. Created in 1960, this prize is no longer given.

The awards are given each year at the Café Procope in Paris, on mardi gras.
