Going to the dogs is a theatrical play by Wim T. Schippers which premiered at the municipal theatre of Amsterdam , The Netherlands on September 19 1986. It drew much national and some international attention, not in the least because the protagonists of the 46 minutes play were six well-trained Alsatian dogs, reading newspapers, watching TV, barking at the screen when they saw another dog on it, and occasionally relieving themselves.

A play in 4 acts, performed by 6 [trained police] german sheep-dogs, sponsored by the dutch Ministry of Cultural affairs, WVC and nationwide relayed by a dutch TV network 'VPRO'. The world premiere was held Friday September 19th, 1986 and also performed Saturday, 20th September 1986 with an enormous success, so that a third, unplanned, performance followed suit. The play caused public discussion in the Netherlands because it was government funded.
