Florinda Chico Martín Mora (April 24, 1926 - February 19, 2011) was an Spanish actress of film, theater and television.
Biography
Florinda Chico Martín Mora was born the 24th of April, 1926 in the town of Don Benito (Extremadura, Spain). She studied singing and then started her artistic career on the stage acting in musical revues. Her first successes were El huevo and the revue La blanca doble (1947) with the comedian trio Zori, Santos y Codeso. Although she made her debut on cimena in 1953 with the movie Pasaporte para un ángel it wasn't until the second half of the sixties when she became a very popular actress. She was one of the most popular supporting actress in the Spanish cinema.
She adopted a very determined stereotype, because of her big woman appearance, which reflected the authentic Spanish woman. She used to play the part of a feisty and fleshy housewife or a grumpy maid. The roles she played fitted in the comedy films of the director Mariano Ozores with whom worked in 22 movies.
Sometimes, however, she played drama films as Cría cuervos (1976) or La casa de Bernarda Alba (1987).
In her filmography it is usual to find her working with the Spanish actress Rafaela Aparicio, who played similar roles in the cinema. They both first coincided playing the role of housemaids in the TVE series La casa de los Martínez (1967). She was also usual in TV series, La tía de Ambrosio (1971), Los maniáticos (1974), Este señor de negro (1975-1976), de Antonio Mercero, Taller mecánico (1991), El sexólogo (1994), Makinavaja (1995-1996) and La casa de los líos (1996-2000)..
In the eighties she was successful with the theater play Mi tía y sus cosas playing the role of the niece of Rafaela Aparicio.
Florinda died on Saturday, February 19, 2011 in Madrid.
