A false god is, in Abrahamic doctrines, a deity or target of worship that is either illegitimate or non-functioning in its professed authority or capability. The term is often used throughout the Bible to compare Yahweh, who is interpreted and claimed as the one true God, to the deities of other, competing religions.

The term has also come into prominence as a fighting word against people of other belief systems.
