Erotica vs. pornography debate

"Eroticism is where you use a feather and pornography is where you use the whole chicken" is a dictum on the difference between erotica and pornography by Chilean writer Isabel Allende, recorded in Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses.

Original Spanish

In Spanish: "Erótico es cuando se usa la pluma; pornográfico cuando se usa la gallina'".

Pero en estos tiempos en que se ha perdido el misterio de la distancia - podemos beber té del Tíbet con grasa de yak de Texas - poco nos sorprende o excita, exigimos afrodisíacos cada vez más rebuscados: artefactos a batería y espectáculos, vivos o en video, más próximos a la pornografía que al arte del erotismo.
