Een nagelaten bekentenis (Eng:A Posthumous Confession) is a Dutch language novel by Marcellus Emants first published in 1894.
The novel is classified in Belgium and The Netherlands as naturalistic literature, but as is evident from the book cover of an early German translation (Bekenntnisse Eines Dekadenten) it is categorized in Germany as decadent literature. It was translated by J. M. Coetzee in 1976 as A Posthumous Confession.
Its protagonist and its general claustrophobia is reminiscent of Notes from the Underground. In keeping with naturalistic traditions, the theme is the antipathic nature of its protagonist and the question whether this is due to heredity.
