De naturalistische roman in Nederland (1982) is a book by Ton Anbeek.
In it, Anbeek discerns the following characteristics of Dutch Naturalism:
- een nerveus, overgevoelig personage als middelpunt van het verhaal
- ontnuchtering na hooggespannen verwachtingen
- determinisme
- haat tegen de burgerij (vooral in het werk van Frederik van Eeden en Heijermans; dit gaat echter niet op voor het vroege werk van Couperus, dat toch bij uitstek als naturalistisch wordt gezien.)
- seksualiteit
- écriture artiste
- een personele verteller (i.p.v. een alwetende verteller)
