A dirndl [ˈdɪʁndl̩] is a type of traditional dress worn in Germany – especially BavariaSwitzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria and South Tyrol, based on the historical costume of Alpine peasants. Dresses that are loosely based on the dirndl are known as Landhausmode ("country-inspired fashion").
