David Katz is an American music journalist, photographer and reggae historian raised in the US.

Known as a Lee "Scratch" Perry expert (he has launched the Upsetter magazine), he writes articles for different magazines and newspapers including The Guardian, Mojo, Rhythm and The Beat and has led many radio programs.

He also contributed to The Rough Guide to Reggae (directed by Steve Barrow and Peter Dalton, 1997 for the first edition, Rough Guides Limited, ISBN 1-84353-329-4). Apart from his journalistic works, he has produced several retrospective collections of Jamaican music and deejays sometimes in London where he's currently living.
